Registered BAS Agent & Tax Agent Services in Sydney
As a registered tax agent, we handle your GST, activity statements, and income tax returns as one seamless service — so nothing gets missed and you’re never left scrambling.
Registered BAS Agent & Tax Agent Services: What You Need to Know
Keeping up with BAS lodgements, GST obligations, tax returns and ATO correspondence can quickly become overwhelming when you’re running a business. Having the right support helps ensure everything is lodged accurately, on time and in line with your obligations.
As a registered BAS Agent and Tax Agent, we help businesses manage everything from GST reporting and activity statements through to tax returns, tax planning and ATO compliance. Rather than dealing with multiple advisers, you’ll have one point of contact who understands the full picture.
Many business owners are unsure where BAS services end and tax agent services begin. While the two roles work closely together, they are governed by different registrations and authorisations. Understanding the difference can help ensure you’re receiving the right advice for your business.
BAS Agent vs Tax Agent: What's the Difference?
Many business owners are surprised to learn that BAS Agents and Tax Agents are separate registrations issued by the Tax Practitioners Board.
A registered BAS Agent is authorised to assist with GST, activity statements, PAYG withholding, payroll reporting and other BAS-related services. Their role is focused on managing your day-to-day tax administration and reporting obligations.
A registered Tax Agent can provide broader tax advice, prepare and lodge income tax returns, assist with tax planning, represent clients in dealings with the ATO and advise on income tax matters.
While there is some overlap between the two registrations, not every BAS Agent is authorised to provide tax advice or prepare income tax returns.
At La Brisa Advisory, we provide both BAS Agent and Tax Agent services, allowing clients to receive support across GST, BAS lodgements, tax returns, tax planning and ATO compliance through a single adviser.

Common Questions
What does a registered BAS Agent do?
A registered BAS Agent is authorised to assist with GST reporting, activity statements, PAYG withholding obligations, payroll reporting and other BAS-related services. BAS Agents help ensure your lodgements are accurate, on time and compliant with ATO requirements.
Can a BAS Agent prepare tax returns?
A BAS Agent can assist with BAS-related obligations but generally cannot provide income tax advice or prepare and lodge income tax returns unless they also hold Tax Agent registration. Income tax returns and tax planning services are typically provided by a registered Tax Agent.
What is the difference between a BAS Agent and a Tax Agent?
A BAS Agent focuses on GST, BAS lodgements and related reporting obligations, while a Tax Agent can provide broader taxation advice and prepare income tax returns. Many businesses benefit from working with an adviser who is registered to provide both services.
Can you help if I’m behind on BAS or tax lodgements?
Yes. We regularly assist clients with overdue BAS and tax lodgements, outstanding ATO obligations and payment arrangement discussions. Addressing outstanding lodgements early is usually the best way to minimise penalties and regain control of your compliance position.
Do I need a registered BAS Agent?
While businesses can self-lodge BAS through the ATO, many owners choose to engage a registered BAS Agent to ensure their reporting is accurate, deadlines are managed correctly and any issues are identified before they become larger problems.
